Winter 2009 Week of Holiday Madness!

Postby Cantinelle » Thu Dec 17, 2009 2:13 am

Holiday Madness Week!

Task

This contest is divided into three parts - two of them are creative, the third is pure luck!

In the first category, you should create and submit your idea of the perfect Tibian Holiday home. Decorate it any way you like to reflect your holiday taste ... be it cheery, bloody, or off-the-wall ...express yourself! If you don't have a house of your own, find a place and decorate it for the holiday ... be it a depot, a guildhall, an NPC shop or a quiet spot in a cave or the desert - make it your own!

In the second category, you have the opportunity to express yourself in words. Tell us a Tibian holiday story ... make up a poem ... make a Tibian parody of a christmas song ... make up your own song! There must be elements of Tibia in your story/poem/parody ... otherwise, you're only limited by your own creativity!

The third category is a lottery, every person who enters the contest will have their name entered in a lottery for one of 5 additional 30 day premiums.

You may enter both the picture and text category if you like, but your name will only be submitted once in the lottery, and every entrant to the contest can win up to two thirty day premium prizes.

Rules

  • All submissions should be in their own thread on this forum, clearly labeled in the title "Picture submission for [insert forum id]" or "Story/Poem/Parody Submission for [insert forum id]". Each submission will be acknowledged by an editor or staff member as received.
  • Stories should be no shorter than around 500 words and no longer than 1000 words, and must be posted in English (the story should be readable, but you will not be judged on grammar). Poems should be at least 10 lines long. Song Parodies should be labeled with the original song (just for comparison)
  • Your picture, story, poem, song, or song parody must comply with the Tibia rules. Thus, it cannot be offensive.
  • The screenshots must be from Tibia.
  • The screenshots can be faked; however, too many changes could negatively affect them.
  • Everyone is allowed to participate.
  • Only one entry per person in each category is allowed.
  • You are allowed to work with a partner; however, only one prize will be awarded.
  • The images must be no bigger than 500 pixels wide and 400 tall . They should be uploaded to a site like Imageshack and linked with [img] tags in your submission thread.
  • Entrants will be added to the contest third part (lottery) in the order their submissions are received (by thread date/time)

Submitting Your Work

You will have until the end of the day Thursday, December 24th to submit your entries. They should be submitted as a thread in this forum. Entries received after that date will not be allowed. Your submissions must contain one of your game character name and your home town (in the event that you win a prize, so we have this information at our disposal).

Judging

Judging will begin the Monday following the end of the contest. Each of the Deputy Editors will vote, along with a panel of invited judges from Cipsoft and other fansites. Once they have been judged, a public announcement will be made in the forum and on the TibiaNews front page.

Prizes!

A 30-day premiums ... generously donated by Boacompra will be awarded to five winners in each category. Each entrant can win up to two premium prizes.

BONUS: If the total submissions for the contest exceed 20, we will add a second lottery for a golden newspaper, and every person who has entered the contest will also be eligible for that prize.

Other than this, we ask only that you play fair so as to avoid being suspected of cheating (multiple entries in each category) and that you put apparent effort into your submission.

All questions and comments are welcome in this thread, but please don't post your submissions here.

For the lottery, we will be using the supported fansite TibiaLottery, and you can find the lottery itself here.

If/when submissions number more than 20, a second lottery will be created for the Golden Newspaper bonus, and will be listed here.

Added Dec 25 1:25am - there will be a lottery for the Golden Newspaper! Find that lottery (as always, courtesy of our friend & fellow supported fansite TibiaLottery) here.

Please note that, while the first lottery was listed in the order the submissions were received, this one was set up to be totally random!

Good Luck, Everyone!

Lovely idea! Will they be uploaded in some way for others to see as well? Like the book case but now maybe a holiday photo album or something?

I do not entirely understand; there are 2 cathegories, you have to do something for both of them? meaning you need to provide a screenshot of a nicely decorated area aswell as a story/poem/song, or should you provide 1 of these? Subject is holiday or christmas? there is a difference, so id like to know.

Kind regards
Chris

@ Tim - the submissions will be here in the forum for everyone to enjoy at this point, but I certainly don't have a problem with summarizing them in an article to show them all off ... in fact, thank you for sparking that idea! That's exactly what I'll do with the winning pictures & stories to show them off :)

@ Nathyn - You're certainly welcome to enter both of the creative categories if you feel you'd like to. The timing of the contest is short, so most people will likely choose to only enter either one or the other. Every entry into the two categories will get a single entry into the lottery, so every single person who enters the contest has the chance to win at least one, but potentially two months of premium time.

Regarding "holiday" or "Christmas" ... I am aware that though this is the holiday season, not everyone celebrates Christmas. I don't mean to submit Halloween or Easter pictures/stories ... but I wanted to leave room for players who might prefer to submit something that doesn't necessarily have a "Christmas" theme ... this leaves open Hanukkah or the winter Solstice or even just a celebration of New Years.

Have I made things more clear? I'll review my post and see if I can clarify it more :)

Regards,

Canti

question regarding prizes: as far as i know one could only buy minimum 3 months premium time for other person, and 1 month premium time was only for buying for yourself. How come Boacompa (whatever it is) can do that? Their site isnt even translated into English.

They're an official reseller, for one thing ... also, when Cip offers prizes of premium time, 30 days is an option.

I'm not sure exactly why they are able to offer a month at a time, but I know it's a real option - they work with Cipsoft on a business level.

BoaCompra is a big reseller in Central & South America, and have done business with Cipsoft for quite a while. They re-sell premiums for lots of different games; I'm sure you've noticed their ads above the forum before. I think it rocks that they're sponsoring our contest :)

whats the point of having a fansite item and your not even giving it away at every contest you do? 30 days premium is like 5 euro, i wont even bother making something for that. (yes i saw there would be also given a newspaper but only if they get 20 submissions and its just a lottery, so if i put a Christmas tree in my house and make a screenshot i got about the same chance of winning it then someone who really put time and effort in it

After non stop editing the story i have written i have come to a word count of 1035, less will simply not make the same story. will this amount be permitted? I will try to revise and rework all the details for a few more days, to make sure no further improvements can be made, however I expect I will remain slightly exceeding the 1000 words border.

Cheers!

I don't think the 35 extra words would kill.

Has my submission been received?

Also, I'm curious about the image size restriction. (the 400 x 500 pixel thing) Are we allowed to exceed it? Because some bigger images have been submitted and got a reply that they've been received.
